Morality is a basic steppingstone of this human world. Which means we have morality as the foundation of our world, and we have a somewhat moral society. An assumption of this would be that this is because we are a moral species. But we all know how true that is. We need laws and regulations to function in a society. Without them we may not even be able to function as a human but only as an animal.
A human by nature is not much of a moral person. If you don’t believe me look how much effort goes to raise up a child morally. There is school, there is society, years and years of upbringing, and yet the results the end are not up to the mark to say the least. Even after all of that we need laws and regulations to keep people in check.
Now one may say that not everyone is inherently bad, most people are good people. The rules and regulations are for the few who are not good people. It’s for the criminals not for the average man. An average man is a good man.
Let me tell you a really funny thing, rules are not for the criminals or bad apples of society, they are for you. For the average person. Bad apples of society will still commit bad deeds. No one can stop them. They will keep going against laws no matter how much the risk is. Laws and rules maker knows it already. They don’t make rules for them. But by punishing them they scare you. Because you are the majority. You see by keeping them in jail or by punishing them they are telling you, “You better not do the same mistake”.
Because they can’t handle the majority. If they lose control over you, society will crumble and sooner or later the government will crumble too. Average person won’t commit crimes if there is a price to pay for that, even if they may commit a crime most probably it won’t be anything serious. This is why the laws are for you. Laws are not for the few who will still commit them.
Those are minority. Those don’t matter much on the greater scale. And laws are also not for the elite group. People with power or people with influence. Actually, most people needed to be controlled so that the people in power can stay in power. Religion does the same thing. Instead of punishment in your life it scares you with the punishment in afterlife. But the concept is same.
Anyways, law makers and religion managers want this vast majority to stay in check. Ones who will most probably commit crimes if there is no price to pay, but will hold back if there is. Most people are not moral by choice but by bondages. We create our morality around the concept of what is available and liable. If something is available and not bounded by law, we consider it our right no matter how wrong it is in other ways. We eat and kill tons and tons of animals each year but we don’t consider it wrong in anyway because there are no laws against it.
We are destroying thousands of hectares of natural habitats and forests to make our lives better and we don’t consider anything wrong with it because there are no laws against. If the religion allows some atrocities, people do them, because again it is not forbidden by any institute that they are concerned with.
At the end of the day molarity is based on our convenience. Based on the fact what is convenient. Convenient to us and convenient to the law makers. If something in not convenient to do, we don’t do it. If something is such a hassle to have and comes with a great risk we don’t do it, after all we are moral people
Now, one may think that this is a good thing than. Good that we have religion and law. The problem arises when these institutes are used to control and for exploitation of people. Which it is being used all the time. It is used to keep the majority of people under the palm of rich, powerful and influential people.
We need a system in which a molarity can be developed in a way which goes beyond the fear and greed of punishment and awards. Only then you can assume we will have a world where people care about morality not convenience.
What system that can be? Well, the system that teaches empathy for each other. That teaches to relate to others pain and that promotes understanding among each other. Only when one can relate to other, they will understand their pain and their suffering as their own.
