You will die and it will all be over. But nobody cares about death anymore, it seems. We have become so impervious towards death that it doesn’t matter to us at all these days. Death has become just a word for us. So, you will die one day. Well, okay, and?
Now, it’s not like we are not afraid of dying, we are. It’s just that we don’t see it usually in our daily lives. Yes, death happens here and there, sometimes it happens to the people we love, and it does have an impact on us then, but mostly we move on even from that and continue with our lives. I get it, what else can we do, right?
What you don’t see.
If we could know that we are going to die on a certain date, how will it change our lives? I am sure it will change somethings, if not a lot. You see, there is a comfort in not knowing. Thing is, we all know we are going to die one day, but we don’t feel it. We feel like we are here, and we will be. It’s a simple feeling, but it changes everything. Even an old person doesn’t feel like they are about to die soon.
They know it, but they don’t really feel it. This is the reason that even an old person is so shocked when death actually approaches. When they see death in front of them as a certainty. They feel betrayed, like someone broke their promise with them.
If you can see death approaching, everyday getting closer and closer, well, first of all it will be really stressful, but it will be really profound too. It will change how we deal with everything especially during the time we are closer to the end.
Now, even if that is not true, one thing is for sure, death is a fascinating topic. It makes you think, makes you wonder, to ask questions, and to challenge what seems so obviously true. Not only that, but it also makes you wonder what is beyond regardless of your beliefs, because let’s be honest for a second, you are not sure, no one is.
What you should see.
Other than that, I think death gives time of life some meaning, otherwise one will definitely lose it. What is time for you if you have all of it? You can do everything tomorrow. And there is always tomorrow. To remember death is not always about doom and gloom, it can give you a different perspective.
It can make you see the mundane and frivolous triviality of so many things that were so important before. Or to others it can even give a sense of meaning to their present and a pull of urgency.
Regardless of what it gives to you, I think remembrance of our mortality is really significant, because it is a fact. And the truth is we don’t even have much time in our hands. Life is a fleeting game.
Things that you assume are so important today may lose their grasp over you when you see absurd and fragile nature of life. It may free you from a lot of misery and burdens that you were carrying before.
Whatever the case is with you, remember one thing, you are not seeing something rare or special, you are seeing the obvious. So don’t flatter yourself If you see the temporary state of yours and others, which others tend to gloss over all the time. Actually, it is so evident that it’s really bizarre that we don’t live in accordance with this realization.
